Sho-Myo means literally: voice and wisdom. The composition is based on authentic Japanese buddhist chants, to which I added melodic counterpoint, thus creating a dialogue for Masanori’s baritone sax and the singing monks. In the second movement, the reciting monks build a ground to which I added melodic counterpoint. In the third section, for alto sax, the monks are gone and the music seems to become weightless, there is this endless void,like a musical meditation.
